I may have missed a month, but I’m still releasing music regularly.
Sometimes we get lucky and creativity simply flows. That’s what happened here. I sat at the piano in my studio and started to improvise. Five and a half minutes later I had a track I was pretty happy with.
Next came the mix. Mixing solo piano basically involves working with EQ and adding some effects to improve the sound. Google thought that EQ stood for “emotional quotient”, but I actually meant equalizer . Any musician would have known that. I decided to add some reverb , and discovered something called “Shimmer”, which gave the whole piece a dreamlike effect.
About the name
My first idea was to call this piece “Take One”, since I recorded it in one take. But after listening to the final version, that didn’t really capture the feel.
It seemed to flow. I thought of names like “Flowing Fingers” or “Go with the Flow”, but they seemed a little kitchy. Finally I decided to simply go with “Flow”.
The video
Like many of my videos, I use stock film, short visual clips available for public use. I looked for abstract videos that, well, flowed, putting them in a sequence that would reflect changes in the music.
Note: I realize that I used some technical terms which not everyone will recognize. People often do that talking about their own profession. I tried to add links or explanations, but if anything is unclear feel free to ask me in the comments.
