New release

Patterns in the Sand

Like my previous release, this track was originally written for media libraries. One of the most important things I learned from my mentors Amit Weiner and Oded Fried-Gaon, is the difference between composing music to be performed and released for streaming vs. music for media libraries. Since music supervisors choose music from libraries “as is”, it needs to be written in a consistent mood and genre. That’s not my natural style, but I gradually adapted.

I sent this track to Amit and Oded, and following is a summary of their responses.

The track is interesting and represents your unique style, but there are too many harmonic changes. It combines epic music, climbing major scales and some creepy harmonies. It won’t be a good match for libraries, but great for streaming.

So that’s what I did.

The title and cover

Like the piece itself, this stage took an interesting twist. The original title was “Changing Patterns”, representing the mood changes described. I realized that this may result in a similar video to a previous release of mine, Just Off, although the music is totally different.

When I first began experimenting with Canva, I tried making some random album covers. Somehow I made one named “Patterns in the Sand” which I thought at the time would be a good name for a future album, inspired by the desert around me. It seemed like a perfect name for this piece, and the cover was ready.

The video

Once I had a name, it became fairly easy to choose a theme – sand dunes. I chose my favorite footage, lined it up with the music, and it was done.

I feel that the result is relaxing and hypnotic.
